Bill Mallonee & Vigilantes of Love

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Ah, XM. You never let me down. This time I am thanking XM50-The Loft for introducing me to Resplendent by Vigilantes of Lo. Yes, as perfect as XM satellite radio is, my CR-V’s audio display truncated the band’s name. Google told me that Bill Mallonee was the front man to the Vigilantes of Love, which set me off on a search for more of their alt-country goodness.

Vigilantes of LoveThink of Dylan’s storytelling, a healthy dose of John Cougar Mellencamp, and the southern sound of the Drive-By Truckers and Neil Young. It all adds up to a tasty alt-country/roots-rock bit of Americana.

Something about baseball and sunny days that makes music like this exactly what I want to hear.

Go listen to some:
VOL Myspace (look for the free downloads via the player…both Resplendent and Blister Soul are highly recommended) | Vigilantes of Love Live at 7th Street Loft on 2000-09-01 (Internet Archive) | Bill Mallonee.net

edited to add:

Looks like recently quite a few people are talking about Bill and his music. There’s also a free download of the album Summershine.

Check out more on Foxytunes Planet.
