The Savannah College of Art & Design has an interesting new viral video campaign going on. I knew about SCAD (as they are affectionately called) from their unique online store, Shop SCAD Online, and the video contest is fun, fun, fun. Try it! Be a winner!

I can’t stop playing the new Kaiser Chiefs album, Yours Truly, Angry Mob. Yeah, the blogosphere seems to give it second billing to the Chiefs first album Employment, but I disagree. I think it’s better.
The rundown, song by song:
Ruby–Catchy, catchy, catchy, chorus. Love it, love it, love it, love it!
The Angry Mob–”We like who we like, we hate who we hate, but we’re also easily swayed”. What a great line. I had to go and watch A Clockwork Orange after I heard this one. The repetitive sing-a-long at the end reminds me of The Tubes – White Punks On Dope.
Heat Dies Down–This says, I like you, but not that much. The antithesis to The Beatles - When I’m Sixty-Four. Good energy on this one.
High Royds–Angry mob revisited.
Love is Not a Competition–A nice Coldplay-esque number.
Thank You Very Much–Kind of an early The Cars – Don’t Cha Stop vibe on this one……
I Can Do Without You–I love the 70s-style ah..ah..ahs. Auditory Zoloft for the broken-hearted.
My Kind of Guy–Not one of my favs…except for the mini guitar solo halfway through.
Everything is Average Nowadays–Nice how the guitar follows the voice during the one part of this song.
Boxing Champ–Piano! Not really liking the vocals on this one, though. The whole song really feels sorta out of place.
Learnt My Lesson Well–Love the U2-like drum intro. Chicago – 25 or 6 to 4 guitars start it off, then it turns into a upbeat little number. Hmm…maybe those guitars are a little more ‘Golden Earring – Radar Love’ than ‘25 or 6 to 4′…
Try Your Best–Melancholy encouragement. God, I love their harmonies!
Retirement–Yeah, I want to retire. Thank you very much.
Man, I can’t help but get nostalgic every now and again for the good ole days. Callin’ up the girlfriends, gettin’ ready, goin’ out to the club. If it wasn’t a weekend, we were at some local joint, but if it was a weekend…look out. Tearing through each other’s closets to put a new spin on an old outfit–man, we came up with some winners. I remember when we thought it was cool to go and see Rick James (some kid named Prince opened for him) dressed in high heels and red-striped socks. The coolest was dancin’ all night, til our feet were sore and our fingers were blistered from all that snappin’.
Cheech & Chong were golden before I even thought about hitting the clubs, with Sister Mary Elephant screaming, “Claaaaasss!” But, best of all was gettin’ a Bas-etball Jones, oh baby, ooo-oo-ooo.
The first two rap songs I remember hearing were Kurtis Blow “The Breaks” and Kool Moe Dee’s “Wild Wild West”. Bought ‘em both on vinyl. And can’t forget “This is How We Do It’ by Montell Jordan.
Michael Cooper’s “The Quickness” was one of those songs that didn’t do very well on the charts, but became an obsession from the first time I heard it. I’d run around the house carrying the boom box with a fresh blank cassette inside, finger on the ready to press Record/Play when I heard the first notes, just to get a copy.
Ready for the World’s “Oh Sheila” was another fav, as was Pebbles’ “Mercedes Boy”. All my girls wished they had that Mercedes Benz they could pick up boys in.
Omigosh, I love this stuff so much, I’m gonna post another couple lists in a day or two.
EDIWTB is about stuff I discover, and stuff I've forgotten about. It can also be about music, knitting, web development, social networking and my other obsessions du jour. More
