Oh. My. God. I have not laughed this hard in a loooong time! Uh, yeah, this is NSFW.

Sufjan Stevens - Put the Lights on the Tree

Friday, December 8th, 2006

Sufjan’s music is exceptionally good at communicating child-like wonder at the world around here, and never is it used to greater effect than here in this animated video for “Put the Lights on the Tree” from the “Songs for Christmas” box set. Oh Tannenbaum, indeed!

A440: The new *Nsync ?

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

For those of you who haunted the local dance clubs with me back in the day, you will remember these two names: Gigolo and Modern Man. These guys guaranteed a packed house and an elbow-to-elbow dance floor with their obsessive following. What did they have in common? Gary Carolla.

After leaving Gigolo and Modern Man behind to work with Wright Entertainment Group (*Nsync, Backstreet Boys, Aaron Carter), Gary proved his sound was marketable. A listen to any of those groups alongside Gigolo will leave no doubt that Gary left his indelible mark.

A440Last night, TC and I were trying to remember the 12″ dance single that Gigolo released, but came up empty. TC called Gary for the answer (Precious) and gave us the Myspace addy for his ‘next big thing’-A440.

A quick listen gives a nice-enough ballad, a funky, but safe, remake of David Bowie’s Fame, and two *Nsync/Backstreet sounding songs: Shut Me Down and Things That You Do. Things is my personal pick for a radio-ready single that will have teenage girls papering their bedroom walls with A440 posters and scrawling “I luv Cameron” all over their notebooks.

Remember, you heard it here first.

Wow. I took a break and didn’t even realize it. Starting the week before Thanksgiving and ending sometime the first week of January, I get on a carousel and can’t get off. But I love it. More to come….
