Silversun Pickups

You gotta love the Hype Machine. Always a good place to discover new music. I’m skimming the “Most Blogged” list and thought, “What a cool band name. Let me check them out.” Silversun Pickups is certainly an intriguing name, but once I heard their music, well, intrigued just isn’t a big enough word for how badly I needed to hear their entire catalogue.
I’m seeing comparison to Smashing Pumpkins all over the place, and I get that. Although some of the songs remind me of Pinback, too. Especially Three Seed, from their most recent release, Carnavas. And shades of Hendrix, too, on Well Thought Out Twinkles.
Their sound is most definately alt rock–moody and atmospheric, with fuzzy guitars and a sweet bassline. Yeah, the lead singer is most certainly channeling Billy Corgan. Amazingly beautiful and haunting.
